Notes from the coast

Why every room faces the light

How a 1931 fisherman’s house was rebuilt around one idea: follow the sun from room to room.

When we restored the house, we kept the walls, the arches and the old salt store, and changed almost everything else around one simple principle: every room should have its hour.

An east room, a west room

Levante catches the dawn. Scirocco keeps the sunset. The courtyard rooms hold the cool of midday, and the Salt Loft looks up at the stars.

Shutters, not curtains

Instead of curtains, every window has louvred wooden shutters. They let you shape the light rather than block it, and they make the most beautiful shadows on the walls.
